Social & Recreational Activities

Sadie G. Mays offers a full range of activities to keep residents engaged –- physically, mentally, socially and spiritually.

We know that staying as active as possible will help our residents to maintain a positive outlook.  We design our activities to meet the needs and interests of our residents.  We encourage them to participate in all the scheduled activities and programs, on an individual and group basis.  Our friendly, energetic Activities staff provides recreation and activities geared to all levels.  If residents are unable to come to activities, we provide in-room visits and activities that are suitable for them.  Our goal is to help each resident to function at their highest possible level.  Some of our activities include:

  • Daily Exercise
  • Discussions of News and Current Events
  • Music and Singing
  • Weekly Yoga and Tai Chi Class
  • Bingo, Wii, Cards,  and other Games
  • Movies and Television
  • Organic Gardening
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Worship Services (Sunday, Tuesday & Saturday)
  • Weekly Bible Study
  • Holiday Programs and Socials
  • Monthly Birthday Parties
  • Programs and Performances by Visiting Groups and Other Special Events
  • Shopping Trips and other Field Trips
  • Small Group Activities

Our skilled social workers help to build relationships among residents, families, and staff members.  These professionals provide counseling and discharge planning services, as needed.  Residents and their families are encouraged to join the Resident’s Council and Family Council, respectively.  These organizations meet regularly and provide valuable input to our administration.
